Morning Pages journaling for creativity
Morning (or evening!) pages, a specific form of journaling, are a simple and magical way of boosting your creativity, clarity, and intuition.
I was first introduced to Morning Pages about a year ago through Julia Cameron’s book The Artist’s Way. Cameron talks about how writing three unfiltered long-hand pages daily is amazing for clearing away fog and confusion and introducing clarity and creativity.

And I can vouch for it! After a relatively short time of journaling Morning Pages I always feel clearer, more creative, and more certain of my path.
IMO Morning Pages work (at least for me) for several reasons.
Three pages and only three pages
To start with, three pages and only three pages are perfect. Kind of little bearish – not too much and not too little. As a high achiever I tend to do more than required, and terrific as ambition can be (The Compound Effect, anyone?) I also get worn out by it, and it’s great not having to over-achieve in my journaling.
Unfiltered writing
Huge bonus for me includes writing whatever’s on my mind without filter. I over-filtered myself for far too many years of my life, and a big component of my current journey is discovering who I really am underneath it all. Having a daily practice of peeling of old layers of filter is so healthy.

Morning Pages journaling for creativity and Wise Words
To be clear, I don’t write Morning Pages all the time. It comes and goes, and there are generally more goes than comes. I love variety, meaning I am drawn to change things about. You see this in my business – I work with Human Design, Bach Flowers, and Essential Oils, and create journals and notebooks. They all work together beautifully, and they are also each their own thing. I love rearranging furniture when energy gets stale, as well as reorganizing and decluttering. In other words: changing things up.
That’s why I made the Wise Words journal multi-use. It gives you the flexibility to change things about when you feel inspired, and stick to a routine when that gives you more comfort. It adapts to your intuition and your goals. It’s great for active folk. It reflects your needs.

Wise Words combines Morning (or Evening) Pages, affirmations, gratitude journaling, and whatever else you choose to explore. For busy people balancing many roles and different responsibilities, this journal supports your journey of being exactly who it is you are.
Right now, for instance, I’m fascinated by dreams. At a meeting Joanna and I attended some months ago, she spoke about how we often ignore the deep and valuable insights our dreams offer, despite us having access to them every day. Her words resonated with me, so I’ve started recording my dreams to identify themes and meanings and how they relate to my life. My Wise Words journal, with its calming and beautiful design, is perfect for this dream exploration.

A bit more about the journal
- It’s 6 by 9 inches in size, which is an awesome size because it’s so convenient to carry around.
- Layout: three lined pages (hello Morning Pages!), then one blank page with a simple and beautiful line drawing of a flower or greenery, then three more lined pages, and so on and so forth.
- The notebook’s vibe is intentionally calm and peaceful.
- Its purpose is to help you introduce more clarity, creativity, intuition, and self-confidence into your life.

How to use your Wise Words Journal
Morning (or Evening) Pages journaling for clarity and creativity
Each day, fill three pages of your Wise Words journal with stream-of-consciousness writing. Don’t worry about what you write; the practice is in the writing, not the content. For instance, if you’re simply writing “I have no idea what to write” again and again and again and again, that’s totally fine. It’s totally fine because if that’s what you’re writing, it means that’s where you’re at.

Some days your journaling may be drab, on others profound; or perhaps your writing is filled with anger, excitement, sadness, depth, joy, or you may resound with brilliant (or not-so-brilliant) ideas for your next vacation. Or thoughts about how you want a vacation. Or how you’ve been taking way too many vacations lately. All is good because all is you.
I wrote in the title of this section “or Evening” because it’s important to remember that these pages and this writing are for you. This means that if you are an evening or night person, or if you have more time to write later in the day, that’s a signal for you to write then and not first thing in the morning. Remember: this practice is for you – so make it into something that works for you!
Affirmation Journal
As a Bach Flower practitioner, I frequently provide my clients with an affirmation that they repeat when they take their Bach Flowers. (Quick catchup for those not yet familiar with Bach Flowers: Bach Flower remedies are natural tinctures created from wildflowers and spring water, and they are used to support emotional balance and mental clarity. Through the mind-body connection, they also help relieve physical symptoms. Powerful yet gentle, Bach Flowers are very healing for adults, teens, children, and animals.)

Back to Bach Flower affirmations: when I provide one to my clients, they are a theme of the current Bach Flower formula I’ve created for them. Another way of looking at the affirmation: it’s a summation of the goals, or some of the goals, they have for their current bottle of Bach Flowers. It’s also a theme of the Bach Flower Journal I created for those wanting to up their Bach Flower journey.
Affirmations remind you of your path and your goals – where it is and who you wish to be. Repeating your affirmations sends messages to your subconscious that that’s where you are going (or already are). Therefore, I invite you to consider using your Wise Words journal for affirmations. You can write them down once and then read them aloud several times a day.
If rewriting your affirmations feels good, I suggest doing that too several times a day, for rewriting helps reinforce your goals even further.

However, if rewriting your affirmations does not feel good to you, then skip it! More important than rewriting is feeling awesome, so you imbue your goals and affirmations with positivity. Let go of things that are a hassle (even if everyone else is doing them!!) because best not to add annoyance to your affirmations. Remember: the person who told you to rewrite your affirmations is someone who gained pleasure from rewriting. If you don’t, then don’t, and take it as a sign that something else is meant for you instead.
The same rule goes for rereading your affirmations. If this feels good – awesome, go for it. However, if it feels burdensome, skip it. It’s a million percent fine to simply write down your affirmations, then release them into the universe. Let them go and trust the process. You don’t need to fight or struggle or do things like everyone else is doing them for them to work. Just let go and let things flow.

If you’re someone who tends to push really hard, perhaps consider starting with this affirmation:
Life breezes by lightly and with ease. Joy is always present.
You can also support yourself with Bach Flower tinctures like Vervain, which helps promote relaxation by calming the drive to overwork, or Impatiens, which reduces irritability and encourages patience. Both can beautifully complement your affirmation practice.
If you feel overwhelmed and need immediate relief, you might also consider (Anti-)Stress Formula as a quick Bach Flower support option.

Gratitude Journal
I’m sure you already know how expressing gratitude is a powerful tool for building abundance, resilience, and manifesting your desires.
The bottom line of everything that’s already been written on gratitude: you want more good things in your life? Start being grateful for what you already have❤️
One way of looking at gratitude is that it’s a form of affirmation, of the sort we just spoke about. Repeating joy and thankfulness for all the great things you already have paves the road for more coming into your life. I used to begin each day by sitting up in bed and expressing gratitude for five things in my life. Then I upped it to ten. And you can start with a single one.

An irony with gratitude is that although feeling grateful for what you have is a great way to receive more, if your intention is just to get, it’ll never work. Rather, the key is being honestly grateful. And then the magic starts to sparkle.
Happily, being honestly, authentically, and truly grateful is pretty easy when you take a look at what’s in your life. There are always things to be thankful for.
And if you happen to be in a place in your life where it’s difficult for you to get to a place of gratitude, I suggest starting off with: “Were I to be grateful for something, I would be grateful for _____.” This helps add a bit of authenticity to your gratitude practice, and if you want my ten cent’s worth, it’s that our world would be helped by a whole lot more authenticity.

Dream Journal
Recording dreams wasn’t on my radar when I created this journal, and that’s why it’s not in the title. However, as I write above, this is what I’m currently using my Wise Words journal for.
When I first began recording my dreams, I transcribed them on my phone because it was easier for me to talk than write. But the light on my phone was too glaring when I was still in a dream state, so after a few days, I set up my Wise Words journal on a stool by my bed, along with a pen I love and my reading glasses. And that works great. When it’s too dark to see, I turn on the bathroom light, and the faint light from the next room is enough to let me record what I just dreamed.
We all have different ways of dreaming. I tend to have very complex dreams that I find too confusing to write down in their entirety so I’ve decided (at least for now) just to write down simple parts of them, trusting my intuition to record what is most relevant for my uses.

Some days I don’t remember my dreams at all. What I’ve decided to do on these days, to get me in the habit of recording my dreams, is to start by writing, “Were I to have remembered my dream last night, it would have been _____” then I let my stream-of-consciousness go wild. Morning Dream Pages, as you will.
I do this because, as I see it, dreams are intuition, as are Morning Pages. And so if I word it this way, the intuitive results will be parallel.
