How to use Human Design to build an AI tool stack you actually use

Human Design and Emotional Authority

When you have “Emotional Authority” in Human Design, many of your best decisions come after you’ve slept on the issue. This is because for people with Emotional Authority, clarity tends to comes with time. Including when you are building an AI tool stack that you actually use. Bottom line: if you have Emotional Authority, take your time to decide, and over the long run you will save time, money, and a lot of frustration.

How to know if you are Emotional Authority

About half of us are Emotional Authority in Human Design. Even if you don’t (yet) know your Human Design, you can pretty easily figure out whether you are Emotional Authority by simply thinking about how you generally feel. Do you typically have emotional ups and downs, even when you are alone? If yes, chances are you have what is called Emotional Authority in Human Design. There are many nuances to Emotional Authority which you can choose to learn over time; what is important here is how it relates to decision-making.

It’s important for me to stress one of my fundamental beliefs: that like anything else in Human Design, being Emotional Authority is neither good nor bad; rather, it’s simply who you are. And the more you understand and accept who you are, the easier it becomes to leverage your strengths and nurture those parts of you that could use a bit of extra nurturing, all of which lead to a more satisfying, fulfilling, and successful life.

Emotional Authority: making decisions & building your AI tool stack

So for those who are Emotional Authority (or have members of your team that are), let’s take a closer look at Emotional Authority and decision-making. My objective: for you to learn enough here about Emotional Authority in Human Design to create an effective strategy for building an AI tool stack you actually use.

What not to do – long-term commitment when you’re excited

Let’s start with what not to do when you have Emotional Authority: rush into making important decisions.

If you have Emotional Authority, you’ve no doubt experienced signing up for an AI tool immediately upon learning about it and becoming excited about its features and potential.

Believe me, I relate to this one. I have Emotional Authority and have unfortunately paid for more than my share of annual subscriptions and full-out purchased licenses that I ultimately realized I neither needed nor wanted. Hello wasted time, money, and frustration.

Looking through the Human Design lens, a big reason why this happens are the ups and downs of our emotional waves. This is because although we’re warned about making rash decisions during emotional lows (“Don’t send emails when you’re angry!”) we generally aren’t similarly advised about avoiding decisions when we’re experiencing euphoric highs. This is notwithstanding that happy excitement creates exactly the same type of barrier to making consistently accurate decisions as sadness, frustration, depression, or anger.

This is because both emotional highs (excitement, euphoria, feeling thrilled) and emotional lows (critical, down, sad, angry) cloud our judgment. Just think about impulse internet buying – when are you most prone to make the greatest later-regretted purchases? Generally when you are feeling either excited about a product’s features or potential, or down about your professional or personal situation.

And as people with Human Design Emotional Authority naturally feel more frequent waves of emotions than those without, they therefore also have greater opportunity to make rash and later-regretted decisions.

Emotional Authority? Take your time to decide whether this AI tool is really for you.

The solution: take your time and sleep on it

Happily, the solution to the problem is simple, even if it takes some willpower to implement: patience, and don’t act in the heat of the moment. By taking your time to allow the peaks and valleys of your emotions to settle, you will automatically make consistently more accurate decisions over the long-run, even if that’s the only change you make. And those better decisions will include your choice of how to build your AI tool stack. 🙂

So don’t rush it. Depending on the size and importance of a decision, you might want to wait a few minutes, hours, or days before deciding. My strong recommendation is to take your time until you’ve moved through your initial excitement and other feelings and can see the situation more clearly. Take it from one who’s gone through this process – although we live in a get-things-done-now-if-not-yesterday society, my experience is that any fallback experienced from taking longer to come to a decision than others may desire is overshadowed by benefits incurred from that delayed decision being so sound.

How to leverage your Emotional Authority to build your AI tool stack for the office

Now let’s move from theory to practice, and see how taking your time to make decisions works in the context of building your AI tool stack for the office.

Tip 1: Begin with short-term commitments

See a great new tool? Think it would be a great addition to your AI stack? Although you may be totally right, it’s also possible that you’re not and simply flying on a wave of euphoria. So no matter how taken you are by that sparkly AI tool, make sure you don’t sign up for the one-year subscription right away, even if it’s a really great deal. Instead, try out the free version or the one-month option until you REALLY know that the tool is for you (or not for you). Yes, the monthly subscription is way less economical, but it will still save you tons of time, money, and frustration over the long run.

Emotional Authority? Migrate in batches.

Tip 2: Migrate slowly

Similarly, don’t migrate your entire system over to your shiny new tool until you’ve got over your initial excitement. Rather, begin by migrating a single type of document – try out contract summaries or internal meeting notes, but not everything at once. This will keep you from wasting time and money on an AI tool that you might be super-thrilled about on first glance, but after time you realize isn’t truly suited to your work or workstyle.

Important: wait for your emotional high (or low) to pass

The backbone to these tips is to take your time. Sleep on it. Wait until your emotional high (or low) has passed so you can more clearly see whether the AI tool actually fits your needs. Use it on a normal day and use it on a chaotic day. Feel your way through whether it’s actually making your life easier and is suited to your work process, and only then decide.

By doing this you’ll stop wasting time and money and tons of frustration on tools that engage excitement upon first glance, but actually aren’t a good match for you or your needs over the long run.
